Roadmap out of lockdown
Step 1 - 8 March 2021 - Education reopening
Education will be one of the first sectors to open which will have implications for those working in education and it will impact on workplaces everywhere for those working parents needing to take their children to school and to pick them up. You will need to consider what impact this will have on working arrangements. To plan for this, speak to affected employees about their arrangements to assess whether they require any changes or additional support now their children are back in school. It may be possible that you are able to return to work or normal working hours now your employees children are back in school.
Step 2 - 12 April 2021 - Non-essential retail reopening
Hairdressers and nail salons; and public buildings, including libraries and community centres will reopen.
The key thing to remember if your business falls within this category is that social contact rules will continue to apply. That means you’ll need to ensure your workplace is COVID-secure for employees, visitors, and customers.
Step 3 - 17 May 2021 - Social Contact
Another sector that will begin to open wider is the entertainment industry. Live performances, cinemas and sporting events can be held, albeit with social distancing in place.
Step 4 - 21 June 2021 - Other businesses
By Step 4 which will take place no earlier than 21 June, the Government hopes to be in a position to remove all legal limits on social contact. The Government has already warned that some elements of social distancing may need to remain even until 2022.
This will mean the reopening of nightclubs, and ease the restrictions on large events and performances.
This step will be subject to the success of the previous 3. Therefore, it is important to remember that these dates and measures may be subject to change.
